Lakota, Arapaho, and Cheyenne warriors defeat Lt. Colonel George A. Custer and the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in southern Montana. Custer, killed in action along with 267 of his fellow soldiers, was both memorialized and criticized for his leadership before and during the battle.
