General Douglas MacArthur is born in the U.S. Arsenal Building in Little Rock, Arkansas. MacArthur, the son of Civil War veteran and Lieutenant General Arthur MacArthur, Jr., commanded Allied forces in the South Pacific during World War II, led the occupation of Japan, and directed the United Nations-led coalition against North Korea in 1950.
