Dan White, a former San Francisco supervisor, assassinates San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and fellow supervisor Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States. White had visited City Hall to request a reappointment to the Board of Supervisors but Moscone refused, leading to White shooting both politicians.
