President Ronald Reagan orders the creation of the Tower Commission to audit his national security bureaucracy following the Iran-Contra scandal. To lead the commission, Reagan appointed former Texas Senator John Tower along with former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie and former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft.
