  • FDR plans to "pack" the courts

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduces the Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937, his legislative agenda to add more justices to the Supreme Court. Roosevelt, who had seen several New Deal bills ruled unconstitutional, sought to add more political appointees to neutralize the conservative justices.

  • Hank Aaron born

    Henry "Hank" Aaron is born in Mobile, Alabama. Aaron, one of the greatest baseball players in history, started in the Negro Leagues before being signed by the Boston Braves. Aaron would go on to break Babe Ruth's all-time career home run record in 1974, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2001.
