    The Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is founded in Washington, D.C.

  • Reagan and Gorbachev meet in Reykjavik

    President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev meet in Reykjavik to discuss nuclear weapons limitations. While the talks did not produce a bilateral agreement, Reagan and Gorbachev would agree upon the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty the following year.

  • Eleanor Roosevelt born

    First lady Eleanor Roosevelt is born in New York City. Roosevelt, the niece of future President Theodore Roosevelt, married Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1905. She later served as the American representative to the United Nations after her husband died.
