After warning Lexington of the approaching British troops on the night of April 18, Paul Revere continued toward Concord with fellow riders William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott. Around 1:30 a.m. on April 19, the three were intercepted by a British patrol near the junction of present-day North Great Road and Mill Street. Revere was detained and questioned before being released without his horse. Dawes escaped but lost his mount, while Prescott successfully continued to Concord and delivered the alarm. A stone marker placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution now commemorates the site.
