Old Powder House

Powder House

The Old Powder House in Somerville, MA, was originally built as a windmill in 1704 and is said to be the oldest stone building in Massachusetts. It was converted for gunpowder storage in 1747 after its sale to the province. It was the scene of the 1774 Powder Alarm, and the British troops marching back to Boston would have passed it by to the south.
