The "Lexington Minuteman," located in the southeastern corner of the Lexington Green, stands over site where local militia fought the first battle of the American Revolution. The statue, sculpted by Henry Hudson Kitson and erected in 1900, is often incorrectly said to represent Captain John Parker, though are no known portraits of Parker made while he was alive. Instead, the figure was meant to represent the Minutemen generally rather than any individual.
